The University of Salford has 2 graduates in one movie as Fifty Dead Men Walking opens this week.

Jim Sturgess, who graduated with an HND in Media and Performance in 1999, plays an IRA informant and the plot is based around his relationship with his English handler.

“Having two of our graduates star together in a major film like this is really pleasing for everyone associated with our courses,” said head of performance at Salford, Denise Vernon.

Does it mean Jim won’t be on Spiderman Musical? | Jim News

As you might know, open casting calls have been done for the upcoming Spiderman The Musical. Does it mean Jim won’t be on the musical?
The answer is nope.
Bernie Tesley, the casting director said there’s still a possibility that Jim and Evan will star on the Broadway adaptation although the individuals from the casting calls may also be selected as the lead roles.
So, nothing confirmed as of now.

The Broadway stage may be in the futures of Jim Sturgess and Evan Rachel Wood. According to Bernie Telsey, the casting director for Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark, even though his team is conducting open casting calls, the Across the Universe duo still has potential to take the leading roles.

During the first cast calling at New York City’s Knitting Factory, Telsey told me that both Sturgess and Wood have done readings for the parts of Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson. While both actors have superb singing abilities and are very desirable for the leads, there is still the possibility that individuals from the casting calls may be selected. It’s obvious that casting talent as big as Sturgess and Wood would be the smartest move when considering ticket sales. After their performances in Across the Universe, their ability to perform well in a musical is a guarantee. It seems as though Telsey recognizes this. Perhaps an agreement cannot be reached to get Sturgess and Wood aboard because Telsey explains that what this comes down to is the fact that the leads have no officially been cast, so his company Telsey & Company, must explore other options.

Sturgess is in an explosive situation
By TOM DAWSON – Tuesday, April 7, 2009

A couple of years ago, Jim Sturgess was, as he puts it, ‘a jobbing actor, desperately trying to get some work if and when I could’. At the time, his focus was on music – but when his band, Dilated Spies, split, he decided to audition for Julie Taymor’s Beatles musical, Across The Universe. To Sturgess’s amazement, he won the lead role of Jude, and traded life in London for a New York film set.

Suddenly, Sturgess was on a roll. He appeared alongside Natalie Portman, Eric Bana and Scarlett Johansson in period tale The Other Boleyn Girl, then starred with Kevin Spacey in 21; the story of a group of students cleaning up at the Las Vegas gaming tables.

It was straight from there to the Hollywood set of immigration drama Crossing Over. ‘There’s lots of famous people in that one, but I didn’t work with them,’ the 27-year-old smiles. ‘I did go up to Sean Penn in a nightclub and told him we were in the same film, but the music was so loud I think he thought I was some sort of weirdo.’
